A cubit is the length between the wrist and the elbow. Three cubits is just about the length of the yarn needed for the final round of each stripe in these socks designed to use the wonderful self-striping yarn from Canon Hand Dyes. The stitch pattern also works with variegated yarn as my fabulous test knitter has proven. You can also make your own stripes, pull favorite colors from your stash or use up your leftovers.

Each stripe is approximately four rows tall, and instructions are provided to ensure that the stitch pattern and the stripe pattern remain aligned. The sock is worked top down and features a heel flap and gusset. The stitch pattern requires that stitches are moved between needles every four rows, which is done most easily using magic loop, but the socks can be made using your preferred method of knitting in the round.

The elongated stitches used in this pattern do not affect the elasticity of the sock, so you can use your preferred stitch count for stockinette socks.
