Oh My Gourd, the Pumpkin
Oh my “gourd,” fall is here! The pumpkin is one of its most famous stars. Ready to whip up a few for your fall decor? Check out this easy and fun crochet project.
This crocheted pumpkin is made from the bottom up, and there is minimal sewing involved. It’s a simple amigurumi piece for beginners to practice crochet stitches and techniques. This pattern also shows how to make a front post double crochet stitch and front post single crochet stitch, as well as how to do an invisible single crochet stitch decrease, which will make your amigurumi look tidier.
Difficulty level: Beginner - Intermediate
The PDF is written in English, and it includes:

Yarn:
- Orange or yellow color: medium 4
- Green color: medium 4
Approximately 25 yds of orange/yellow and 2 yds of green to make one piece.
You can alter the size and color of the yarn for this project. If you do so, you might also need to adjust the crochet hook size accordingly.
Tools:
- Crochet hook size: G/7 – 4.50 MM or 5/ 1.90 MM Try to use a smaller size hook than recommended on the yarn label; for size medium 4 yarn, I use both 4.5 MM and 1.9 MM hooks. 1.9 MM hooks yield a denser texture and make a smaller size pumpkin.
- Yarn needle
- Stitch markers
- Scissors
As a reference, when using a 1.9 MM hook with size medium 4 yarn (gauge info on label: 5MM/16SC/18R), the pumpkin measures 2 inches tall (including the stem) and 2.25 inches in diameter. (Good for making a keychain.)
When using a 4.5 MM hook with size medium 4 yarn (gauge info on label: 5MM/13SC/14R), the pumpkin measures 2.5 inches tall (including the stem) and 3 inches in diameter.
