Supplies:
Worsted weight (medium - 4) yarn in the colour of your choice … approximately 125 yards/130 meters (I used
about 1/2 a skein of Craft Smart Value Yarn….which is basically the Canadian equivalent to RHSS)
Small (1/2”) button in coordinating colour
Crochet hook sizes: 4mm (depending on gauge)
Scissors
Yarn needle
Stitch marker(s)
Poly-fil (if you choose to stuff the beak, although the piece holds up very well on its own)
Gauge:
After row 5, the side beak piece should measure 1.5” in length.

Chain (CH)
Single Crochet (SC)
Single Crochet Decrease (SC2tog, SC decrease)
Single Crochet Increase (SC increase)
Half-double Crochet (HDC)
Double Crochet Decrease (DC2tog, DC decrease)
Double Crochet Increase (DC increase)
Triple Crochet Increase (TC increase)
Slip Stitch (SS)
Definitions:
INC: crochet 2 stitches into the same stitch
DEC: decrease the next 2 stitches into a single stitch
FO: fasten off
Notes:
Pattern is written in US crochet terms.
Most of the pattern is made with 2 strands of yarn held together, and is specified at the beginning of each
section.
The beak is worked in pieces, sewn together, and then the mask is crocheted around that.
I crochet somewhat loosely, so I like to use the smaller hooks on worsted weight yarn to get the stiffness
required to hold shape. If you crochet very tightly, you will definitely want to go up at least one hook size to meet
the gauge.
