Old Friends
Old friends are always there when you need them: steady, reliable, and comfortable. Garter stitch is the knitter’s old friend, the familiar, dependable stitch that never lets you down. Combine it with yarn that’s been in your stash for a while (another old friend) and an asymmetrical triangle, and you have a shawl that will be your go-to wrap on any chilly day.
The instructions are given for DK weight yarn, but any yarn, with the appropriate needle size, will work up nicely.
You can follow the stripe sequence as given, or use this as a template for your own stripes.
The shawl is worked from the point to the base, and the side edging stitches are picked up and knitted.
This is a nice project for the Advanced Beginner who is ready to tackle changing colors, simple increasing, and picking up stitches.
The finished measurements are a wingspan of approximately 48” and a back length of approximately 23.5”.
As shown. the shawl takes 3 skeins (130 yards each) of Color A, and partial skeins of each of Colors B, C, D and E.
