In English naval history , an “old salt” is an experienced sailor and teller of sea stories. Inspired by seafaring stories passed down through generations, this gansey-style shawl transitions from one stitch pattern to the next while framed in soft waves.

Finished size:
69” wingspan and 29” tall at center.

Materials:
4 skeins of Diamond Galway (100% wool; 219 yd 200 m/50 g), off white (I used approx.
835 yards of aran weight yarn).
Size 8 (5 mm): 47” circular; adjust needle size as necessary to obtain correct gauge.

Gauge: 17 sts and 26 rows over 4” (10 cm) of stockinette stitch after blocking.
