I’m defintely not a hat-“model”, (nor a “model” by any means), but I wanted to share with you the loveliness of the forest this April day.
It was such a pleasure to see that trees, leaves, birds and flowers are behaving just “as normal”, it was very reassuring and emotional.
And, the air was a bit cleaner, too.

When I was working on my latest design: https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/old-shale-cardig... I knew I would use an odd skein of Malabrigo Rios to work a hat.
This is the perfect yarn for a hat, squishy and well textured, and it fits so well! I can’t start wearing it straight away, but come any day with frost and winds, and I will be prepared!

Size
The hat is one-size. Worked at gauge, and after blocking, the circumference of the hat is 47 cm/18.5”. The height of the hat is 22.5 cm/9”.
You could add/subtract height before starting the crown.
And, if you want a smaller/bigger hat you work at a finer/larger gauge.

Materials
Yarn: You could use any yarn of worsted weight that knits up to gauge to work the hat. I used Rios from Malabrigo, which is a great choice for a squishy hat with great stitch definition. This yarn is of worsted weight, and comes in skeins of 100 gr/3.53 oz and 192 m/210 yards. You will need approximately 115 m/125 yards of this specific yarn to work the hat. Needles: For the lace-patterned brim and main body you need a circular needle, 40 cm/16”, (or larger, if working the magic loop), size 4.5 – 5 mm/US7 – US8. A set of dpns 4.5 – 5 mm/US7 – US8 for the shaping of the crown.

Gauge
20 sts and 28 rounds = 10 x 10 cm/4 x 4”, in stockinette and lace.

The pattern
The pattern has a schematic.
The lace (for the brim, as well as the main body) is charted,
as well as written out, round by round.

Knitting skills
Fairly easy.
Might be good as a first lace-project!
You should be able to knit in the round, work lace following charts and/or written instructions.
