I based this design off an art project I did years ago: a tubby paper mache owl with comically big eyes that I named Oli (after Oliver Sykes from Bring Me The Horizon because I was in high school lol).

He knits up pretty small, well suited to be a coaster, wash cloth, or face cloth. And the cute comical design makes him well suited as a project for a kid as a gift or beginner project.

If you’re looking for him to be a bit bigger, I found it to be fun to knit it up with two strands of yarn as one and bigger needles. That way you can get more fun out of the colour choice and have a chunky, much more textured piece that works better as a pot holder, scrubber, or an item place mat.
