The Olive Grove Cardigan is a wonderfully rustic cardigan that instantly evokes daydreams of visiting ancient olive orchards, where we can watch the olive harvest, touch a tree over a thousand years old, and follow it up with a delicious outdoor picnic. Just a little bit roomy and not too long, this cardigan is designed to be worn layered over other garments. The fronts of the cardigan measure wider than the back for improved fit and is knit in one-piece, top down, following charted motifs. The main body is worked in rows with a background of Reverse Stocking Stitch; but the sleeves are worked inside-out, in the round (knit side facing), for your convenience and knitting pleasure.

Notions:
8 (8, 8)(9, 9, 9)(10, 10, 10) x 19 mm / ¾“ buttons. Handmade buttons used in sample are: S60-Apple Branch, available from: thewoodlot.ca; 8 stitch markers, 1 removable stitch marker, cable needle, 2 flexible stitch holders or spare circular needles, tapestry needle.

-This seamless cardigan is worked from the ribbed neckband downward in rows on circular needles. The neckline is shaped using German Short Row technique. Alternatively, Wrap and Turn method could be used but is not described.
-The increases of the yoke are shaped while following the motifs of the charts. Pay close attention to the symbols and check stitch count regularly.
-The sleeves are worked in the round in Stocking stitch by turning the garment inside-out so that you are knitting, not purling.
-The stitches of the button / buttonhole bands are picked up and knit and worked in rows of rib. If you wish to change the length of the cardigan, you will need to recalculate the spacing of the
buttonholes, possibly requiring fewer or more buttons and yarn amounts.
-The “mini leaves” are knit separately and sewn in place after blocking.
-Take measurements based on blocked and dried swatches. The stitches of the garment will even out and settle more compact, once dried thoroughly after blocking.
