Ollie the elephant
This is a .pdf crochet pattern, written in standard American crochet terms.
With this very easy pattern, you can make a cute and playful crochet elephant. With basic crochet skills you will be able to make this animal.
Size
Size of finished elephant made with worsted weight yarn: 5 inch / 13 cm when sitting.
The crochet pattern contains
An intro with useful info. List of materials, tools and accessories needed. Brand and colour numbers of the needed yarn. A clear and colour coded description of how to crochet and assemble the animal. Pictures and illustrations to help getting everything right. All my patterns are text edited for correct English and have been tested by an experienced crocheter before publishing.
Materials
For this crochet elephant you’ll need worsted weight yarn and an E US/3.5 mm crochet hook. You’ll need two colours of yarn, grey, about half a skein of 100 yard, and not so much of light grey. For the eyes I’ve used 8 mm animal eyes. You will also need fibrefill and pellets for a bit of extra weight in the body (I use Hama beads). A pipe cleaner for the tail and trunk is optional. Lopi colour numbers: 0057 and 0054.
Yarn
Istex Lett lopi. I strongly recommend using a fuzzy yarn because it gives the best result.
Gauge is unimportant for this pattern. If the pieces are crocheted tightly enough, they will not gape visibly when stuffed. You can make a little test swap to be sure.
