Its oldest sacred texts are the Vedas, collections of hymns and prayers written in Sanskrit. Om is not only a symbol but also a sound—really three combined sounds (a-u-m), representing the unity of mind, body, and spirit. It is often chanted as a mantra during yogic practice.
