Om (Diamond 47)
When knit of #10 crochet cotton on size 0 needles, the Diamond 47 series creates a miniature symbol, suitable for use as an ornament. Finished size is 3 1/2” x 3 1/2” (9 cm x 9 cm) measured as a square; 5” x 5” (12.5 cm x 12.5 cm) tip to tip, measured as a diamond. Stay posted for other gauge options!
Design is presented both in chart and written instruction format.
The Om symbol represents Hinduism, which is both a body of religious beliefs and a way of life. Considered the oldest religion in the world, Hinduism is a fusion of various Indian cultures and traditions, with diverse roots and no founder. There are about 1.15 billion followers of Hinduism. Its oldest sacred texts are the Vedas, collections of hymns and prayers written in Sanskrit. Om is not only a symbol but also a sound—really three combined sounds (a-u-m), representing the unity of mind, body, and spirit. It is often chanted as a mantra during yogic practice.
The knitting itself is not complicated, but it is important to count and follow chart (or written instructions) accurately. The knitting is basic; the chart following is basic (for a given row, all stitches are on one chart); and the chart management is basic (entire design is on one chart).
Charts and written instructions were created using Stitchmastery software.
