Oma's Sokken
My Oma (Dutch for Grandma) was an amazing sock knitter and so is my mom, who passed along her sock knitting skills to me!
Back in my Oma’s time, sock knitting would have been more of a necessity to keep her family’s feet warm, but today hand knit socks are a luxury everyone can enjoy!
Whether you’re an eager first-time sock knitter or a veteran sock knitter in need of a go-to, easy-peasy sock pattern, these are the perfect socks for you!
Oma’s Sokken are knit in a traditional rib pattern which is not only simple but provides an amazingly comfy and snug fit too!
This pattern is written to be knit with DPNs but can be adapted for knitting in the round or with circular needles.
If you have some (or alot of!) experience knitting socks, you can use this pattern as a guideline for heel flap and heel turn counts (you know, the not-so-fun math part of knitting!) and add your own flair by using a twisted rib or broken rib cuff, knitting a contrasting heel, toe and cuff, or by knitting a different type of heel flap! Make them your own!!
