The phrase “on a wing” means to take flight, or in flight. Much of the beauty of birds is seeing them on a wing, looking as light as air and fluttering around from tree to tree or with wings outstretched and soaring through the sky.

The On a Wing shawl is crocheted from the bottom up and forms a unique wing-shaped triangular shawl.

The stitch patterns of the shawl form an inner triangle with one stitch pattern, bordered by deep wedges made by crocheting another stitch pattern.

Best of all, On a Wing is relaxing project with an easy-to-memorize stitch pattern followed by a very simple edging that is added once you reach the stopping point.

I used a color gradient yarn, Yarn Bee Rainbow Wrapsody, for my shawl, although you may use any of the other color gradient light fingering cotton/acrylic blends such as Scheepjes Whirl or Red Heart It’s a Wrap. The light fingering cotton/acrylic yarn makes a shawl that is as light as air!

Pick your favorite color gradient yarn and enjoy crocheting through the different colors and stitch patterns.

On a Wing is a beginner-friendly pattern, and a fun relaxing pattern for a more advanced crocheter.
