In late Autumn, we watch the peaks for the first signs of snow and hope that the runs will soon be covered in powder… celebrate the first days of well-groomed ski runs and sipping cocoa by the fire with twisted-stitch cables. This pattern is designed for fingering weight yarn, held double to create a cozy, ultra-squishy hat, perfect for the season.

Yarn

Depending on the size you are making, you’ll need one to two (1 to 2) approx. 100 g skeins of fingering weight yarn, 400 yards each and one (1) mini skein of fingering weight yarn of approx. 20 g / 80 yds.

Yarn is held double with itself or another, low-contrast fingering weight yarn throughout to create a worsted weight gauge.

32 sts x 30 rows over 4” x 4” in unblocked, unstretched 1x1 twisted ribbing, knit in the round, on US 4/3.5 mm

28 sts x 28 rows over 4” x 4” in unblocked cable pattern, knit in the round, on US 6/4.0 mm
