“On Stage” is the next shawl in my Hosta series of shawls.The shawl is an asymmetric shallow triangle.

The shawl body is worked from one side to the other. Approximately 50% of the yarn is used in the increase section, 50% in the final lace edge section. This is an ideal construction for that single skein of special yarn or handspun where you want to use it all without risking running short. Beads are optional. You can also make the lace edge section smaller and use more yarn in the first portion of the chart.

The pattern is written with a crochet bindoff, but an alternate written bindoff is also provided. Any weight of yarn can be used.

Hosta “On Stage” (a sport of Hosta montana) is a large mound of gold-centred, green-margined foliage which becomes green by midsummer. The flowers are a very pale lavender on tall scapes and bloom in July. Some experts (ref. Mark Zilis, “Hostapedia”) claim that it originated from Japan where it is named “Choko Nishiki” and was found in the wild near Mount Fuji. Some experts still debate the origin. We love it because it positively glows in our garden, especially in the spring when it arrives quite late compare with other hosta. Throughout the seasons, it continues to standout in the shade.
