This is a fun, stylish sweater for girls. I made one in a solid color for one granddaughter, and one using 3 colors for another granddaughter. You could also do a solid color with just contrasting trim. One skein of yarn is enough for the trim (edges, front and back center stripes, and neckband. Then you would need 3 of each of the other colors. The diagonal knit does use up quite a bit more yarn than the usual stockinette pattern.
