Once Smitten is an asymmetrical shawl knit with three engaging lace sections alternated with relaxing garter stitch rows creating interest and texture throughout the design. The lace is an easy to memorize 4-step repeat over two rows. A larger gauge is utilized allowing the lace to open up and shine!

Techniques used:
Knit & purl, cable cast-on, I-cord bind off, increasing, decreasing, and passing slipped stitches over.

Yarn used in sample:
625 yds (572 meters) total of DK weight yarn:
200 yds (182 meters) of Color A (Viper)
425 yds (390 meters) of Color B (Gosia)
Other weight yarn may also be used, but you will need to allow for yardage and finished size differences.

Suggested yarn:
Any yarn that has the ability to be blocked aggressively. The sample uses a 100% Merino Wool in a solid color for Color A and a variegated yarn with short color changes for Color B. Solid and/or tonal colors would also be beautiful to use together!

Suggested needles:
US 7/4.5 mm and US 10/6 mm (32”/81 cm or larger circular needles) or size needed for gauge. Larger needles should be 3 sizes larger than smaller needles.

Notions:
Two stitch markers, one removable stitch marker, scissors, tapestry needle, blocking wires, pins, blocking mat.

Gauge:
16 sts & 32 rows = 4”/10 cm
Worked in garter stitch, using smaller needles, and measured unblocked.
