Simple flowers dance around the crown of the hat to evoke the sweetness of autumn and the joy of nature’s final burst of color before a well-deserved winter’s rest.

A sweet re-interpretation of Lyrical Knits’ Fractured Fairy Tale Hat, Once Upon a Rhinebeck maintains the same color dominance throughout. This design is in celebration of the upcoming 20th anniversary of Miss Babs’ Yarns and the special colorways they develop for the annual New York Sheep and Wool festival every year. Once the new colorways drop, the pattern will be updated with additional photos.

Worked in the round from the brim to the top in DK yarn, the hat is worked with stranded colorwork in 2 colors. Three sizes are offered, and more flexibility with size can be achieved by using a different weight of yarn at an alternate gauge (see the handy sizing chart in the pattern to help you out with different gauges).

Have problems with the “jog”? No worries--the charts include instructions to ease the jog and keep the pattern perfectly in sync!

Have trouble meeting the ROW gauge even when you match the stitch gauge? You’re covered there, too! The pattern has 3 different length options to give you even more flexibility is you want or need a shorter or longer hat--there’s no need to wing it. Your work will stay in pattern at varying lengths.

Gauge: 26 sts & 28 rows/4” (blocked) in color pattern on size 6 needles (or size to obtain gauge). Ribbing measures 28 sts and 36 rows/4” unstretched.
Finished Measurements:
Sizes XS(Sm, Med) measure 19 ¾(22 ¼, 24 ½)” in circumference; Depth of hat is approx. 8 ½ ” from ribbing to crown (when using Chart 1 at the stated gauge).

1 skein EACH of Miss Babs Yowza Minis (199 yds/80 g) in the Main color (MC, shown in Cacao), and in the Contrasting Color (CC, shown in Golden Anniversary), or
Approximately 140(150, 170) yards of the MC, and 80(90, 100) yards of the CC in DK weight yarn.
Set of size 6 (4.0 mm) double pointed needles (dpns) or size required to obtain gauge,
