Once Upon a Time Blanket
This is a fully tested crochet pattern in both UK and US crochet terminology for a small blanket or wall hanging. The pattern is 10 pages long and includes a PDF in both UK or US terms, suitable for printing or viewing on any digital device.
I created it for the ‘International Yarn Bombing Festival’ held in Milan in June 2022. Using various yarns from my stash, I crocheted a picture inspired by the theme ‘Once upon a time…’ Children from all corners of the world coming together on a sea voyage.
The finished piece can be used as a wall hanging or a small blanket, especially suited for babies, children or anyone young at heart! :)
The finished piece measures approximately 80cm x 80cm (31.5in x 31.5 in).
Materials used:
I used a wide variety of yarns. The base was made using Emu Classic Chunky (100% Acrylic, 100g /164 metres) which is available from The Knitting Network. I used a 6mm hook. For the children I used Scheepjes Catona (100% cotton, 10g/25m) with a 3mm hook.
The rest of the yarns used is a mixture – only small amounts are needed. I have listed yarn types and suggested hook sizes in the pattern. Have a look in your stash and use a variety of colours and yarn thicknesses… hook sizes will depend on the yarn used… experiment and enjoy!
Pattern Notes: The base is crocheted first in one piece. The rest of the picture is built up by adding various motifs and appliqués which are sewn on.
