Designed for that wonderful skein of fingering weight yarn you have been saving for something unique. You know, the skein you love that just followed you home, ready to party with you, even though you had nothing in mind to create with it. This shawl will take the entire skein, and is adjustable to fit your skein yardage - anywhere from approx. 400 to 600 yards.
The shape of this shawl is a very wearable, elongated triangle, with a gently curving upper edge, and it contains plenty of repetition for you to relax into, with enough detail to keep it interesting. The yarn over/dropped stitches make it a quick knit, and the fringe adds a fun, festive finish. You can wear your shawl as a cozy wrap, or drape it lightly over your shoulders. While you’re at it, why not make more than one - and gift the extra to someone knit worthy who would enjoy having little more fringey festivity in their life?
MATERIALS:
1 skein fingering weight yarn, approximately 100 - 150 grams and 400 to 600 yards. A few examples are:
Invictus Yarns ADVENTURE (75% merino, 25% nylon, 460 yds/100
grams) in the Don’t Look Under the Lilacs colorway (purples)
Plucky Knitter PRIMO FINGERING (75% superwash merino, 20% cashmere, 5% nylon, 440 yards/115 grams) in the Supper Club colorway (muted green/brown/blue)
Hedgehog Fibres SOCK (90% merino, 10% nylon, 435 yds/100 grams) in the Parklife colorway (light greens)
Hue Loco LUXE SOCK (70% superwash merino, 20% silk, 10% cashmere, 435 yds/100 grams) in the Cheeky Rhino color way (light blue, green, lavender)
The Dye Project VENTANA (75% Blue Faced Leicester, 25% silk, 435 yds/ 100 grams) in the Serenity color way (pale aqua)
24” to 32” circular needles between a size 2 and 6 - whatever will produce a nice, not too stiff, not too loose, kind of drape-y shawl like fabric. You know what I mean.
Tapestry needle to weave in ends
Crochet hook for the fringe
(Optional but highly recommended) yarn scale - this is how you determine how to customize your shawl to get the most benefit from almost every bit of your yarn. You can also use a diet scale, a postage scale, etc.
APPROXIMATE GAUGES:
Exact gauge isn’t that important - it’s a shawl, after all
The Invictus Yarn ADVENTURE sample was knitted on size 3 needles and produced a gauge of 18 stitches and 28 rows to 4”/10 cm. after light blocking
The Dye Project VENTANA sample was knitted on size 3 needles and produced a gauge of 18 stitches and 27 rows to 4”/10 cm. after light blocking
The Hedgehog Fibres SOCK sample was knitted on size 3 needles and produced a gauge of 19 stitches and 29 rows to 4”/10 cm. after light blocking
