One Little Envelope
This little envelope is knitted in the round, via a cast-on of my own devising. It is based on a vague notion of what the Turkish cast-on is supposed to accomplish, but is flat rather than invisible. I suppose that it’s a form of double-knitting…
I have little doubt that that this method exists somewhere in the knitting repertoire―there is nothing new under the sun―but I haven’t seen it in my limited experience; if you have, or if you find any errors or have any questions, please drop me a line. Let me know, too, if you think of other things to do with it—ipod cases are an obvious application, and this basic little envelope would do very well for the short-lived third generation nano.
Gauge is not important for this pattern, though it should be loose enough to flatten and tight enough to enclose whatever you care to put in it; differently sized yarns and corresponding needles will produce differently sized envelopes.
Materials you will need:
Not very much yarn at all
A set of double-pointed knitting needles
A tapestry needle (for finishing)
A button of your choice, needle and thread
Skills you will need:
Knitting in the round
