One Ugly Ombré
Ugliness is in the eye of the beholder, just like beauty. What makes a pattern “ugly” for me is a skill I haven’t learned yet that intimidates me, or a blend of colors that I don’t usually incorporate into my work.
There’s a French phrase, beau laid, which means “beautiful because of its ugliness.” I feel like that covers the feeling of satisfaction I get in breaking out of my comfort zone and trying a new technique or color combination.
This hat incorporates a bright pop of neon with warm neutrals, some basic color work in the form of Latvian braids, and if you’re feeling especially daring, a 2 color brioche rib.
Embrace the ugly!

Pattern has been updated with new layout, clearer instructions, and additional directions for an alternate 2-color ribbed brim for those who do not want to do 2-color brioche in the round.
Fixed typos, and unclear language in braid and brioche directions.
