This cowl was a very long journey, during a very challenging time in our lives. I wanted to create a wearable hug for the world, one that would make us feel safe and loved.

Choosing each stitch was a labour of love—I wanted it to be simple enough to work on during those days when we are so stressed but need our fibre therapy, yet also difficult enough that we need to concentrate (aka—forget about the outside world. And the yarn is the ultimate distraction as the colours and luxurious feel will make you feel nothing but joy!!!

Each section’s pattern stitch was carefully chosen and although I want how you interpret these stitches to be your own healing journey, I will share why I chose them.

Teardrop Heart—for so many things, the hugs not given, the family not there, all of our sacrifices, but also the sheer joy when we are able to be back together.

Cabled Circle—the world, all of us as one, intertwined together.

Upward twisted Branches—Just like the mighty Oak, we will grow strong, we will survive!

The Diamond—Shining brightly, hard as nails; this is for all the essential workers in the world; medical, food service, power, every neighbour and friend who was checking on and dropping groceries off for those in need, for everything that each of you did for us each and every day!

As I worked each section I spent time thinking about what it meant for me, my family, my community and my colleagues. And yes, there was definitely a few tears.
