Onesie with a stork
Knitting pattern #stork_onesie is a simple yet very elegant button-fastened model of onesie for 0-18 months children, described stitch-by-stitch.
You will find 5 sizes carefully calculated and tested: 0-3 months (62 cm 2’ 0”), 3-6 months (68 cm 2’ 3”), 6-9 months (74 cm 2’ 5”), 9-12 months (80 cm 2’ 8”), 12-18 months (86 cm 2’ 10”).
The onesie is worked from the top to down: neck first, then raglan-shaped yoke with German yoke increase method, after which the body of the garment is worked in the round (with added underarm stitches) and legs in the round (each separately).
The last step is sleeves in the round (also each separately). The wet blocking is required and you can proceed with the embroidery.
Main pattern for the body is stockinette stitch on the larger needles. Neck, bands, cuffs and bottom ribbing are made in ribbing 11 (k1, p1) on the smaller needles.
Stitch level is moderate and partial videos (helpful with no sound) incorporated into the pattern, but due to the complexity of the garment itself, it’s recommended for experienced knitters.
You will need:
Infinity Air (150 m/50g 164 yds/1.75 oz), Drops Air or any other Aran weight yarn if you obtain the gauge: 3, 3, 4, 4, 5, balls (for each size correspondingly) or 492, 492, 656,
656, 820, yds.
Knitting needles:
for the main pattern:
• circular needles 4 mm US6 on a 60 cm cable 24”
for the ribbings:
• circular needles 3 mm US2½- on a 60 cm cable 24”.
If you don’t use the magic loop method for circular knitting, you can use the same size DPNs for sleeves, legs and cuffs.
Notions: tapestry needle, cable needle (CN), 4 stitch holders (or you can use scrap yarn for that), 5-7 buttons (18-20 mm in diameter), scissors, stitch markers
