Online Chess is a raglan-style sweater knit seamlessly in the round from the top down, beginning at the collar. It features a beautifully expanded ribbed neckline that adds a touch of structure and elegance to the sweater.

This design is quite different from my usual style—a bit of a creative risk—and I honestly don’t know how it will be received. It all started with the stitch pattern, and I develop the pattern to showcase the striking two-color motif.

Once finished, the sweater reminded me of the elegant yet effortless knitwear worn by Elizabeth Harmon in The Queen’s Gambit. While it wasn’t directly inspired by her wardrobe, I couldn’t resist giving it a chess-related name. And honestly? I think it’s the perfect sweater for an online chess match.

I hope you love it as much as I do!

Construction

  • Sweater is worked seamless, from the top down.
  • Short-rows are worked in the ribbed collar to raise the back neckline for a comfortable fit.
  • After work the collar, the sweater is worked in a two color Star Tweed stitch.
  • After the yoke is worked, sleeves are put on hold to knit the body in Star Tweed stitch.
  • The Star Tweed stitch is a combination of slipped stitches and pass over stitches, and it is worked with only one color per round.

Short-rows (wrap and turn), working in the round, increases and decreases, slip stitches, and pass over stitch. Skill level: experienced.
