The pretty open ribbed pattern forms a lacy fabric. This scarf uses one skein of Red Heart Super Saver Stripes, a gauge is not really important with this pattern.
If you find you knit tightly I would go up a needle size, you want your work to be loose, giving the scarf a nice drape.
Any of the Red Heart Super Saver lines of yarns will work quite nicely for this pattern.
