These mitts were inspired by some matching mini-skeins of gradient yarn. I wanted to be able to knit them from the top-down to really take advantage of the whole gradient. I couldn’t find any top-down mitts, so I created my own. The buttons are just for fun.

I love knitting projects that keep things interesting by changing things up, so these mitts include a variety of stitch patterns: purl-twist, which is one of the most under-appreciated stitch patterns (according to me); reverse stockinette to keep things smooth where they need to be; garter, to provide some sturdiness for those buttons; and finally: ribbing, because who doesn’t love a good ribbed cuff?

The mitts are available in adult small, medium, and large. There’s information to help you customize a bit, including if you want to use buttons that are larger or smaller than the ones in the pattern.

This pattern is great for mini-skeins or leftovers from previous projects. Less than 1/2 a regular fingering weight skein made two mitts in size large. Since they’re knit top-down, you can just use up what you have with a shorter or longer cuff. The stitch pattern works great for variegated yarn.
