Using slipped stitches to do colorwork is a great way to use smaller amounts of heavier-weight yarn together and not have too much extra bulk like fair-isle or stranded colorwork would produce. It’s much easier than it looks and still has plenty of stretch. This is an excellent way to use smaller, leftover bits of your favorite yarns.

The original version of this hat was done with handspun wool (stretchy fibers) and handspun alpaca/bamboo blend (not stretchy fibers) and together, the hat has just enough stretch to work well for an average adult head circumference. It stretches to fit snugly at approximately 23” (59cm).

Gauge can be adjusted by going up a needle size, or using a lightweight yarn and adding 2 repeats.
