I love the whole idea of a Cabinet of Curiosities, but sadly, I’m a little light on the funds I would need to go about buying animal skulls and whale vertebrae and the other bizarre things I would love to display. Do you know what I can definitely afford, though? YARN! Thus was born my “Cabinet of Crocheted Curiosities.”

This pattern produces a fairly accurate opossum skull that can also pass for the skull of a red fox. The pattern combines amigurumi-style crocheting - that is, crocheting in the round - with pieces worked flat - that is, in back and forth rows. Required stitches are pretty basic: sc, HDC, DC, slip stitch, and single crochet decrease. The pattern contains clear instructions and 18 pictures to help you visualize exactly what you’re making at each step.

The pattern requires minimal extras (scissors, a stitch marker, stuffing, a tapestry needle) and just one color of yarn.
