Opposites Attract
Opposites Attract is a delightful optical illusion. It has an easy “knit as you go” I-cord edge around the neckline (which also hides the initial color changes). The Dambana is knit flat until the top edge measures 20” to 24”, then joined and finished in the round. The only weaving in of ends is two strands at the bottom of the Dambana. Other ends are hidden in the I-cord edge.
Opposites Attract can be knit with whatever weight yarn you have in your stash. Gauge is unimportant. Use a needle size that gives you a drapey fabric with your yarn weight, usually a size or two larger than recommended for the yarn.
The Dambana pictured used approximately 360 yards (180 yards each of two colors) of Sportweight yarn on size 7 needles. I would use about the same yardage and needles using DK weight. For sockweight yarn, I would calculate about 450 yards (225 yds each of two colors) on size 6 needles.
This pattern is a variation on “My Own Dambana” that I designed and is also available (for free) in my Ravelry store.
