Opposites Attract Socks
For any knitter who loves knitting socks, this pair is designed toe-up with a complete afterthought heel and uses a sequence of Fibonacci numbers to create an intriguing pair of socks. Knit matching, opposite colors, or a completely mismatched pair! The blue pair used up stash sock yarn and the pink/orange pair was knit with Cascade Heritage Sock Yarn.
These instructions are merely guidelines for the experienced sock knitter who still wants to knit a plain vanilla sock but not get bored!
Every sock knitter finds her/his own niche for favorite types of cast ons and bind offs, so use any cast on and bind off techniques preferred. The afterthought heel works best because it does not disrupt the striping sequence. The Fibonacci striped pattern sequence will remain the same (unless, of course, the knitter prefers to change the stripe sequences, which I did for the pair at the end)!
Sock yarn thicknesses vary, as well as the knitter’s knitting tension. Remember that socks should have negative ease and should measure at least one inch smaller around than the feet wearing them. Use an appropriate needle size for the correct gauge for the stitches per inch. Three widths are given for a narrow, medium or wide foot.
