The sample cowl was knit with three colours of wool from Orø sheep, and feature a motif with nordic stars with two colours that fade into a solid colour.

CONSTRUCTION
Cowl is worked in the round and seemed when it’s long enough. You start and end on the solid coloured section (colour C).

SKILLS NEEDED

  • Provisional cast-on
  • Joining in the round without twisting the stitches
  • Knitting in the round using a circular needle or double pointed needles.
  • Stranded colourwork
  • Managing colourwork floats
  • Reading a chart

YARN
DK weight yarn with big contrast in following quantitites:

Colour A: 100 grams (about 275 meters)
Colour B: 100 grams (about 275 meters)
Colour C: 50 grams (about 140 meters)

Yarns I’ve used in the sample:
Orø garn (100% Danish wool, 275 meters per 100 grams). Natural black for colour A, natural white for colour B, natural grey for colour C.

There needs to be good contrast between colours A and B.

NEEDLES
3.5 mm for the single colour portion
4.5 mm for the colourwork portion

GAUGE
24 stitches and 27 rows = 10 centimeters
