Orange Socks
- THIS IS A PDF PATTERN, NOT A PHYSICAL PRODUCT -
The orange socks are the perfect summer colorwork project. I was very much inspired by the beautiful book cover of Small Pleasures by Clare Chambers when making this sock design. The socks are intermediate level and are best for knitters who are already a little bit experienced with colorwork since at some parts you have to knit with 3 colors at the same time. However, with the help of some tutorials, the socks could be knit as a first colorwork piece as well.
SKILL LEVEL: beginner/intermediate
GAUGE: Needle size 2.5mm / US 1.5: 28 sts x 30 rows = 10 x 10 cm / 4 ‘’
SUGGESTED MATERIALS
Yarn
- Main color (MC): Onion Nettle Sock Yarn in 1025 petrol, 70% wool and 30% nettle. I used approximately 50 grams / 185 meters.
- Contrasting Color 1 (CC1): Onion Nettle Sock Yarn in 1027 orange, 70% wool and 30% nettle. I used approximately 35 grams / 129 meters.
- Contrasting Color 2 (CC2): Coop Knits Socks Yeah! in 114 peridot, 75% superwash merino and 25% nylon. I used approximately 25 grams / 85 meters.
- Zigzag color (white): Drops Nord in 01 naturel, 45% Alpaca, 30% Polyamide and 25% Wol. I used approximately 10 grams / 34 meters. Any fingering weight sock yarn that meets gauge would work, if not you can size up/down in needle size.
Needles
- I knitted the socks on 2.5mm 6 inch circular needles but you could use DPN’s or magic loop in 2.5mm needles as well
The needles I used: Knitpro Zing 25cm sock circular needles in 2.5mm needles.
Note: if you use tiny circular needles you also need DPN’s or a long cord needle for the toe.
