I love it when I can go pick up many ponds of fresh apples, but I find plastic bags not comfortable to handle and obviously not very eco-friendly. So I wanted a washable bag, something light as a feather. I wanted a drawstring to hold the content in the bag, but also comfortable handles to carry many pounds of fresh-picked fruit. I wanted it to be stretchy and expandable. They weigh only 10-30 grams depending on their size. I also carry them with me to the grocery store for large quantities of oranges, pears, cucumber, even lettuce!

If you want to knit up your own, you’ll need:

Either one of the 3 following options. Size of the bag is adjusted by going up in needle size. Make sure your yarn is a machine washable natural fiber one like cotton or hemp. Needles are circular, at least 40 inches long.

  1. Small bag: Fingering weight yarn, with size US 10 (6mm) needles

  2. Medium bag: DK weight yarn, with US 11 (8mm) needles

  3. Large bag: Worsted weight yarn, with US 15 (10mm) needles
