Orchid Pearl
A bright burst of color combined with luxurious alpaca make these eye catching, deliciously warm and soft. Not in the mood for color? Turn them around, tuck the colored edge beneath your coat sleeve, and show off their goes-with-anything monochromatic side instead. With an effortless flare at either end, they’ll be comfortable any way you choose to wear them.
This is an easy-to-follow pattern, perfect if you’re a beginner who just learned to knit in the round, or a more experienced knitter looking for a project that doesn’t require too much concentration. Simple and satisfying. And you get to pick two colors of yarn!
YARN
Pattern calls for 1 skein of each color of Blue Sky Alpacas Sport Weight. The largest size uses almost a full skein (110 yds / 100 m) of the main color (shown in charcoal grey), and a smaller amount of the contrasting color (shown in magenta pink).
Update: The magenta color is discontinued but you could substitute Hibiscus (538) or use Sublime Extra Fine Merino DK Shade 0411, which is a close color match to the original yarn used. Either would look great with the dark grey.
SIZE
Instructions are provided for small, medium, and large sizes, based on women’s hand sizing. Pattern also provides instructions for easy resizing, should you wish to make them for children or men.
Finished length is 7 1/2 inches / 19 cm. If you would like to make them longer or larger than the largest size, you will likely require more of the main color yarn.
NEEDLES
Knit in the round using 2 sizes of double pointed needles. The smaller needles are the size suggested to achieve the gauge specified. Needles 2 sizes larger (than those used to achieve gauge) are suggested to cast on and bind off loosely.
SKILLS USED
Long tail cast on, knit and purl in the round. Optional: sewn bind off (detailed instructions included).
