Orchids in Martello Tower
Drop a stitch and pick it up to create the even flow of space I’m this shawl knit on the bias from corner to corner. Designed to show off the beautiful cadence of Cozy Colorworks Worsted Weight yarn this design will also support what ever creative yarn inspires you as it shows the dropped stitches as elongated colorful dashed among the stockinette columns.
From the book Cozy Coastal Knits…
Far from the crowds and T-shirt shops on Duval street just off Higgs Beach is one of the prettiest little spots in the Florida Keys, West Martello Tower. Originally designed as a coastal fortification used during the U.S. Civil War, it now protects the Key West Garden Club’s collection of plants. Here among the vaulted brick spaces and local fauna you can take in the view, learn about local history, and simply reflect on the many different textures and colors that envelope the space. The colors of this shawl are reminiscent of my favorite part of the landscaping here—the orchids. If you visit, don’t forget to look up into the trees; there are wonders to behold at all levels from the ground up at the West Martello Tower.
