I love the feel of a squishy garter stitch beanie, but I am not a fan of the ‘joining jig’ I get when working in the round, and many sideways garter stitch beanie designs tend to require a bit of concentration at the wrap & turns. This design was created in order to avoid some of my pet hates.

The design begins by knitting a slightly shaped rectangle, with an I-cord edge. When your rectangle comfortably fits the appropriate head, the beginning and ends are grafted together, and stitches picked up for the crown decreases. The joining jig is also hardly visible on the crown after a bit of slipping and sliding. Trust me, you will be able to use any yarn, needle size and make something soft, squishy and wearable.

There are no sizes given, just information about the yarns used, and sizes achieved in the test beanies, although the pattern requirement list does show gauge/needle size for yarn used in the sample beanie pictured.

Although there are some instructions, I feel this is a recipe for a beanie, because it is so adaptable.

I hope you will be inspired to pick up your needles and ‘just go with it’.
