El Jersey Oréades es el resultado de mi participación en el “Reto teje 3 palabras” organizado junto con los chicos de Merino Feroz. Puedes seguir los demás trabajos del reto con los hashtags #retoteje3palabras2021 y #knit3wordschallenge2021, tanto en Youtube como en Instagram. El reto consistía en diseñar una prenda inspirándose en tres palabras: 1) Fauno, 2) relámpago y 3) colores sólidos.

El fauno, según la mitología, tenía dos naturalezas: era mitad hombre y mitad cabra. Por esta razón, el jersey tiene dos hilados (mohair y tweed), dos puntos (jersey y elástico calado) y dos partes bien diferenciadas. Además, en referencia a la parte caprina del fauno, durante todo el jersey se teje con mohair (pelo de cabra de Angora). El relámpago está representado por el zigzag que hace el elástico calado y por el color gris oscuro que recuerda el color del cielo cuando hay tormenta. El relámpago es la luz que llega antes del trueno y queda reflejada en el jersey por los pequeños calados y las transparencias (que dejan pasar la luz) y las pintitas de colores en medio del gris del hilado tweed.

Las Oréades son, según la mitología griega, las ninfas de las grutas y las montañas. Las ninfas, deidades femeninas, se representan en obras de arte como hermosas doncellas desnudas o semidesnudas, que aman, cantan y bailan. De ahí que el resultado sea un jersey muy femenino y sensual a causa de las transparencias y el cuerpo ajustado.

Es un jersey top-down tejido en circular. Se empieza con un montaje provisional para tejer el cuello alto con los dos hilos juntos. Una vez terminado el cuello, se retoman los puntos del montaje provisional y se teje el canesú sólo con el mohair, aumentando considerablemente el número de puntos para obtener los pliegues. Se hacen vueltas cortas alemanas al inicio (para dar altura a la espalda) y al final (para bajar las mangas). Antes de separar las mangas del cuerpo, se vuelve a unir el color B y se reduce el número de puntos. Se continúa tejiendo el cuerpo hasta el largo deseado (en el patrón te doy medidas para una versión corta y otra larga, pero lo puedes hacer con el largo que tú prefieras) con los dos hilados. A continuación, se retoman los puntos de las mangas y se tejen sólo con el mohair hasta el puño, momento en el que se vuelve a unir el color B. Para finalizar, se retoman los puntos del final del canesú y se teje un volante que circunda el pecho, los brazos y la espalda.

The Oréades Sweater is the result of my participation in the ‘knit 3 words’ challenge organised together with the people from Merino Feroz. The challenge involved designing an item taking inspiration from three words: 1) faun, 2) flash (of lightning) and 3) solid colors.

The faun, according to mythology, had two natures: it was half man, half goat. For this reason the sweater uses two fibres (mohair and tweed), two stitch patterns (stockinette stitch and lacey rib) and has two very different parts to it. Also, the fact that the entire sweater is knit using mohair (hair from the Angora goat), makes reference to the goat half of the faun. The flash of lightning is represented by the zigzag of the lace pattern in the ribbing and by the dark grey color that reminds us of the color of the sky during a storm. The flash refers more to the light you see before the thunder than the actual lightning bolt itself, and this is also reflected in the sweater with the eyelets of the lace and the transparency of the yoke and sleeves (which allow the light through) as well as the specks of colors amidst the grey of the tweed yarn.

The Oreads, according to Greek mythology, were the nymphs of the caves and the mountains. Nymphs, female deities, are depicted in works of art as beautiful naked or semi-naked maidens, who love, sing and dance. Hence the result is a very feminine and sensual sweater because of the transparencies and the tight bodice.

It is a top-down sweater knit in the round. It begins with a provisional cast-on to work the high neck with the two yarns held together. Once the neck is finished, the stitches of the provisional cast-on are picked up and the yoke is worked with mohair only, increasing the number of stitches considerably to create the folds. German short rows are worked at the beginning (to add height to the back) and at the end of the yoke (to drop the sleeves). Before separating body and sleeves, color B is added again and the number of stitches is reduced. The body is then worked to the desired length (measurements are given in the pattern for both a long version and a short version, although you can work to the length you prefer) with both yarns held together. Then the sleeve stitches are picked up and worked in mohair only down to the cuff, where color B will be introduced again. To finish, stitches are picked up around the end of the yoke to work a ruffle that runs around the chest, arms, and back.

La challenge consisteva nel creare un capo prendendo ispirazione da tre parole: 1) fauno, 2) lampo (di luce) e 3) tinta unita.

Secondo la mitologia, il fauno ha due nature, è mezzo uomo e mezzo capra. Per questo motivo il maglione è lavorato con due fibre (mohair e tweed), due punti (maglia rasata e coste traforate) ed è costituito di due parti ben distinte. Il fatto poi che l’intero maglione sia lavorato usando il mohair (ottenuto dalle capre d’Angora) è un altro richiamo alla metà animale del fauno. Il lampo è rappresentato dal motivo a zigzag delle coste traforate e dal grigio scuro che ricorda il colore del cielo durante una tempesta. Il lampo è inteso più come la luce che si vede prima del tuono che come la saetta vera e propria, e questo è rappresentato dagli occhielli del motivo traforato e dalla trasparenza dello sprone e delle maniche (che permettono alla luce di passare attraverso il tessuto) così come dagli speckles del filato tweed sullo sfondo grigio.

Nella mitologia greca, le Oreadi erano le ninfe delle grotte e delle montagne: queste divinità femminili sono sempre state rappresentate come bellissime fanciulle nude o seminude che amavano cantare e danzare. Per questo Oréades è un capo molto femminile e sensuale, grazie alla sua trasparenza e alla sua linea aderente.

È un maglione top-down lavorato in tondo. Si inizia con un avvio provvisorio e si lavora il collo alto con i due filati insieme. Una volta completato il collo, le maglie dell’avvio provvisorio sono riprese e lo sprone è lavorato solo con il mohair, aumentando considerevolmente il numero delle maglie per creare delle pieghe. Ferri accorciati alla tedesca (German short rows) sono lavorati all’inizio (per sollevare il collo dietro) e alla fine dello sprone (per le maniche scese). Prima di separare il corpo dalle maniche, si unisce nuovamente il colore B e si riduce il numero delle maglie. Quindi si lavora il corpo con entrambi i filati nella lunghezza desiderata (nelle istruzioni sono date le misure sia per una versione lunga che per una versione corta, ma naturalmente puoi scegliere la lunghezza che preferisci). Poi sono riprese le maglie per le maniche che sono lavorate solo con il mohair fino al polsino, quando di nuovo il colore A viene unito al colore B. Per finire, si riprendono le maglie alla fine dello sprone per lavorare un volant intorno al seno, alle braccia e alla schiena.
