Orient Drs Bag
Take the sort of patterning you find on carpets of the Far East and mix it with the shape of a Doctor’s bag and you get this.
Very generously sized the finished bag measures approximately 45 cm (17 3/4 “) wide at base x 14 cm (5 1/2 “) deep x 29 cm (11 1/2 “) tall after felting (excluding handles)
With intarsia sides and a stranded colourwork base it’s knitted in an Aran weight yarn and embroidered then felted / fulled to both blur the colours and add to the structure of the bag.
Additionally, a plastic grid type bag base inserted into the bottom of the bag stops it from sagging when used and Italian leather handles and bag feet add the final finishing touch.
Although mostly knitted in Aran weight the JC Rennie Unique Shetland 4ply yarn is used trebled throughout
Unfortunately the Key to Symbols was missing from the original pattern instructions printed in April’s issue of ‘Knitting’ so I’ve added it to my blog here
The PDF pattern is a combination of charted and written instructions with links to the relevant stockist for bag making supplies used
