Orient Express
These socks are named after one of Agatha Christie’s most famous novels, Murder on the Orient Express. These socks are a simple knit with most of the sock being knit in 1x1 twisted stitch rib. The motif, found in one of Barbara Walker’s Treasuries appears under the cuff and at the toe for some interest.
E-book details
This pattern is part of an e-book series, The Agatha Christie Series, Volume 2 (The Poirot Collection). Follow along as I create designs inspired by Agatha Christie novels featuring Hercule Poirot.
Patterns will be delivered approximately every 6 weeks, between January 2014 and July 30, 2014. Your Ravelry library will automatically be updated with the new patterns.
Skills Needed: Must be familiar with sock construction and knitting in the round. Knit, purl, twisted stitches, working with 1/1 cables.
This pattern is available in both toe up and cuff down versions, charted and written instructions.
Note: The motif increases the stitch count by 2 per repeat, leading to 14-18 additional stitches for several rows below the cuff, and by 6-8 stitches at the toe. While this might sound like a lot, testers reported the socks fit well (with the side benefit of giving those of us with well-endowed calves a comfortable fit). The pattern does suggest some modifications for anyone concerned about fit based on the extra stitches.
