Oriental Flower Square
This year I have the great honor to be one of four Ambassadors for Granny Square Day 2022 (GSD 2022)!
As an Ambassador I was asked to create a Granny Square that represents something about my life. I have a huge love for the nature and immediatly knew I wanted to make a square with a flower! Flowers comes in all shapes and colors with a range from petite, sheer and soft colored to big, bold with vivid colors. And I love them all!
My square “Oriental Bloom Square” is made with rich colors that makes me happy. The flower has a textured center and petals that stands up. The petals are perfect for little fingers to fidget on if you fancy making a baby blanket. Around the flower is a 3D frame that also creates a beautiful pattern when several squares are joined togeter. As with all Granny Squares you can use this square to make anything you fancy; a bag, throw, scarf, table cloth, cushion, cardigan, wallhanging etc. Depending on what yarn you use the look and feeling will change. Use your favorite yarn and make your favorite flower!
I used the yarn Scheepjes Catona (100% Mercerised Cotton) for my Oriental Bloom Square. The Catona yarn comes in 113 colors and I´m sure you can find your favorites among them.
I used the colors 383 Ginger Gold, 413 Cherry, 517 Ruby and 391 Deep Ocean. How to place your colors are described in the pattern. I wanted a firm square and used hook 3.0 mm, but if you like a softer square use 3.5 mm. The size of the square depends on which yarn and hook you use, but my square measures 11.5 x 11.5 cm after blocking. I hope that you will enjoy this pattern as much I did designing it.
