These socks were designed after a wonderful visit to Orkland in Norway on the Knitography retreat in early 2020. The all-over colourwork pattern design is inspired by many traditional Norwegian colourwork patterns including the one found on my travels on my Sitzunterlag, a small woolen felted mat used to sit on when picnicking (or of course knitting!) outside. This sock pattern was designed in collaboration with Woolentwine Fibrestudio.

Orkland Sokker are knitted from the cuff down and have an all over stranded colourwork pattern (which never has more than 5 sts of one colour, so no need for twisting floats.) The socks are knitted with a short row heel. The instructions are written for 4 sizes using gauge, yarn and differing needle size to achieve the size difference. The bigger sizes are suitable for a man-sized foot (or for house socks).

Size info:
The sizes depend on the circumference of the widest part of your foot. Length of sock is easily adaptable as show in the foot section of the instructions.

Size 1: 20cm (8”) circumference foot . Fingering weight yarn. Size 2.25mm needle/US 1 using fingering weight yarn.
Size 2: 22cm (8.5”) circumference foot. Fingering weight yarn. Size 2.5mm needle/US 1.5 using fingering weight yarn.
Size 3: 25cm (9.75”) circumference foot. Sport weight yarn. Size 2.25mm needle/US 1 using sport weight yarn.
Size 4: 27.5cm (10.5”) circumference foot. Sport weight yarn. Size 2.5mm needle/US 1.5 using sport weight yarn.

Gauge info (after blocking)
Size 1: 34 sts x 36 rnds to 4” / 10 cm in colourwork.
Size 2: 32 sts x 34 rnds to 4” / 10 cm in colourwork.
Size 3: 28 sts x 30 rnds to 4” / 10 cm in colourwork.
Size 4: 26 sts x 28 rnds to 4” / 10 cm in colourwork.

MC: Woollentwine Fibrestudio, Corriedale sock. 100% Corriedale wool, sourced and spun in the UK,
non-superwash and nylon-free. 50g, 200m / 218yds in Toadstool.
CC: Woollentwine Fibrestudio, Corriedale sock. 40g, 160m / 174yds in Natural Cream.

German sheep, 65g 180m / 190 yds in Natural Grey colourway.
