I was fortunate to be a test knitter for Brienne Moody’s oh-so-gorgeous ORNA sweater. I knit this hat to get the most from my swatch, and Brienne generously invited me to publish it as a pattern. I’m so grateful for her kindness and support!

DESCRIPTION
The striking cable and lace pattern is much easier to knit than you might guess. The motif uses the patterning from Brienne’s ORNA sweater, so this hat is suitable as a swatch.

The hat begins with ribbing at the brim and is followed by the cable and lace pattern. As the hat is shaped, a delightful design emerges at the crown. Instructions are both charted and written.

SIZING
One size fits most adults. Brim circumference stretches from 18” - 22” / 45.5cm - 56cm. Hat depth is 8” / 20.5cm from brim edge. To alter sizing, change via yarn selection and/or needle size.

GAUGE, after blocking
24 sts x 35 rnds per 4” / 10cm in cable pattern with Main Needle
27 sts x 32 rnds per 4” / 10cm in 1 x 1 ribbing with Ribbing Needle

MATERIALS
Yarn: 180 - 200yds / 165 - 183m worsted weight yarn for single brim. Worsted spun yarns in solid or tonal colors show cables well. Note: Yardage may vary based on specific yarn, gauge, and brim depth.

Samples shown in A Verb for Keeping Warm’s Bread & Butter Everyday, colorways “Agave” (grey-green main sample) and “Cottontail” (beige sample with folded brim). Folded brim modification may require a second skein.
