Ornate Alef-Bet
Designed in the calligraphic style used by official scribes, the Ornate Alef-Bet allows you to knit Hebrew words easily.
10% of all pattern sales will be donated to World Jewish Relief. They say, “Inspired by our Jewish values, we provide life-saving and life-changing action to support and empower people in crisis around the world.”
The Medium Alef-Bet Chart includes
- all 27 letters of the Hebrew alef-bet (22 standard letters and 5 final letters)
- a Magen David of the same height for use in colorwork
- the words Am Yisrael Chai fully charted
- guidance on charting your own word(s)
Which Alef-Bet?
Letters in Small Alef-Bet are around 3 stitches wide x 4 rounds tall. The Small Alef-Bet is an excellent choice for a small hat with a longer word or phrase.
Letters in Medium Alef-Bet are around 4 stitches wide x 5 rounds tall. The Medium Alef-Bet has a classic and clear look.
Letters in Cursive Alef-Bet are around 4 stitches wide x 6 rounds tall. The Cursive Alef-Bet adds elegance but may be less familiar to those less confident in Hebrew.
Letters in Large Alef-Bet are around 6 stitches wide x 8 rounds tall. The larger size allows the inclusion of nikkudim (the dots in the middle) and the vowels are also charted for this Alef-Bet.
Letters in Ornate Alef-Bet are around 7 stitches wide x 9 rounds tall. These beautiful and formal letters are especially striking.
Please note this is a general guide; some letters will be larger or smaller.
Skill Level
Requires the ability to knit colorwork, catching floats, and duplicate stitch (needed for some letters). Suitable for intermediate knitters. Design requires 2 colors only.
