Oskar Cowl
Oskar is a satisfying blocky neckwarmer cowl knit from combined shapes! As a project, it combines familiar techniques and cozy garter stitch in unexpected and engaging ways. As a finished object, it’s a great little tube-style cowl, and makes an excellent gift or an addition to your handmade wardrobe.
This is a long cowl, with enough fabric to keep you cozy or pull the top of the cowl up to protect your face a bit when it’s cold.
The .PDF pattern is written for sockweight yarn, but it also includes measurements to allow you to knit it at any reasonable gauge if you’re confident and willing to work without specific numbers. (Techniques will be consistent, but stitch counts will obviously change if you switch to worsted yarn, for example.) In dk/worsted yarn, this project might be a pretty quick knit as well!
Materials:
- 95g or about 437 yards of Premier Yarn S
- 1 24-48” circular needle in US3-4/3.25-3.5mm, or size needed for gauge. Knitting is both flat and in the round, so if you have intermediate needle-lengths, that may work best! Otherwise, magic loop is a useful technique to make a longer needle work.
- 1 set of 5 DPNs in size needed for gauge
- 1 spare circular needle, 24-48”, in same size or one size down crochet hook for cast-on, 1.90mm or size suited to yarn
- Tapestry needle
- Removable stitch markers
Gauge:
Gauge is 22 sts and 39 rows over 4”/10cm of blocked stockinette, worked in the round. Please be sure to check your gauge.
Size:
As shown, this cowl measures 22”/56cm tall and about 20”/51cm in circumference.
