Oslo - Paris
ENGLISH pattern update: December 2021.
Oslo-Paris is a poncho that features both French and Norwegian garment traits and brings both cultures together in a casual-chic piece.
Norne Yarn indie dyer Tuva Hoen and her friends Lotte and Ebba were the most delightful guides when I came to the Oslo Knitting Festival in 2017. They took me to the Viking Museum so I could see the Gokstad drakkar in real life, since it had been my inspiration to design a shawl for the festival. And they took me to the Folk Museum where they shared their extensive knowledge of traditional Norwegian costumes. Tuva even showed me her own “bunad”, which she wore on her wedding day.
This is why the Oslo-Paris poncho features a silver-brooch shaped brioche pattern: it is my tribute to Norwegian traditions and gorgeous costumes. As to the French touch, well, what could be more French than a striped jersey top?
Oslo-Paris is worked in the round from the top down and includes short-row shaping so that the front of the garment is shorter than the back, for both stylish and practical purposes.
This pattern was first published in the Oslo Strikke Festival 2017 magazine.
