Ostby cap
The Ostby hat is a light, warm cap to stuff in your pocket in case it’s chilly farther up the mountain. A simple, intuitive motif of traveling stitches plays across the surface of the fabric and the decorative crown decreases echo the design. I created this hat as part of Abundant Earth Fiber’s Cormo celebration in 2019; the sample is knit with a special blend of fiber from Signe Ostby’s Cormo and alpaca flock, but you can substitute any DK-weight wool.
The traveling stitch motif is worked from a chart, and I suggest working this portion of the hat on a needle two sizes larger than the one you use for the ribbing and the crown.
