Ostrich rug
Since I have a real liking for nature’s most peculiar, weird, mysterious or misunderstood underdogs I decided to design some of them for anyone who wants to get to know these natural weirdo’s a little better!
As I have recently moved, I decided to knit a rug to dress up the place and I have opted for an ostrich. Although it cannot fly, it is still the fastest two-legged creature on earth! So, this ostrich won’t fly away from you any time soon, not even when it’s on a carpet! Or will it?!? Try and find out, start knitting and get snug with a mug on a rug!
This rug was knitted in Drops Snow (92) dark moss (10 units), (88) chalk (10 units), (46) medium grey (1 unit), (85) curry (1 unit), (02) black (1 unit) and (47) light beige (1 unit).
The rug was worked flat on 9 mm needles (US 13, UK 00) and it was felted after knitting. It is an easy project, with some intarsia color work.
Felting is easy, just put the knitted piece in your washing machine. Through felting the rug will shrink considerably, this is what the pattern is based upon. Therefore, the knitted piece before felting is quite large (100 sts over 250 rows). The felted rug measures 62 by 100 cm.
