Oswald is a generously sized scarf featuring a two-colour checked pattern knitted with the intarsia method. Inspired by woven fabrics, the ‘wrong side’ of the intarsia join is displayed to give the impression of top stitching on a tailored garment. Blocks of moss stitch are integrated into the checked pattern, adding texture and dimension. Once the scarf is knitted, multiple strands of yarn are interlaced through the outside edges of each moss stitch block, which are then trimmed to create fringe. I chose to use John Arbon’s Yarnadelic Worsted base for its crisp stitch definition and melange shading.

Tools & Materials
• 4mm / US 6, 82cm / 32” circular needle
• Tapestry needle with large eye for woven embellishment and weaving in ends

Gauge
20 sts and 30 rows = 10cm / 4” in texture (mix of stockinette and moss stitch), after blocking.

I recommend using Oswald Part 3 Chart as the gauge swatch: cast on 29 with one colour and only work between columns 9-37 and rows 1-38. After blocking, measure the knit stitches and rows on the WS of the swatch.

Always use a needle size that achieves the correct gauge.
