Otter Cove Shawlette
This crescent shaped shawl is worked from the bottom up, and features the signature Ball & Skein Cobblestone pattern for the border. The construction includes a simple short row technique using decreases with no need to wrap and turn. We’re now showing it in two versions. We like them both, but we’ve fallen for the feel of the lighter gauge with the extra color.
The DK version can be worked with any DK weight yarn, and works up great using variegated yarns. Cathay 4 Streak gave us a delightful structure with enough drape for the piece. That uses all 360 yards of the yarn.
The sport/light DK weight version uses 3 colors, and is wider and a bit shorter than the DK weight version. For this version we chose Serena from Manos del Uruguay which gives you lots of drape and is perfect for a lighter look and feel. The fact that it’s a fair trade yarn from a Woman’s cooperative is a big bonus! This version used approx 1/2 of colors A and B, and about 3/4 of color C, so a total of 340 yards or so.
