Our Sam
Written for eight gauges and two adult sizes this pattern is sure to become a favorite! (like Sam) With a deep ribbing it can be worn slouchy or fold back the ribbing for a beanie cap. The multi gauge hat is knit in the round from the top down. Begin with the fabulous Emily Ocker cast on method and double pointed needles (or your method of choice for working small circumference circular knitting). By knitting top down you can start the knitting and take your gauge from the hat itself – no need to swatch! Have just a single skein? You can make the most of it by working the ribbing until you are almost out of yarn. I suggest a minimum of 2” (5.1 cm) of ribbing to ensure the hat stays on your head. This plain and simple hat yearns for embellishment! Add embroidery, pom poms or tassels at whim.
Curious about the name? Two years ago my husband saw this beautiful dog waiting by a field gate on a country road. Five hours later he was still there, waiting. Sam now has a good loving home where he has space to run.
